Qualifications for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games

The remainder of the entries for the Olympic Winter Games (OWG) Figure Skating competitions were following the Olympic Qualifying competition: the Golden Spin of Zagreb, held in Zagreb (CRO) on November 7-11, 2001. In Zagreb, only one entry per discipline and ISU Member could be earned and these remaining places were available only to those Members, which had not previously earned an entry in either Ladies, Men, Pairs or Ice Dance at the 2001 World Figure Skating Championships.

According to the official ISU Qualifying system, the majority of the places in the OWG were allocated based on the results of the 2001 World Figure Skating Championships in Vancouver (CAN), as follows: 24 of the 30 places available in the Ladies' and Men's events; 16 of the 20 places in the Pairs event and 19 of 24 places in the Ice Dance event. However, some of the ISU Members, which had qualified for the OWG at the 2001 Worlds, had opted not to use their full quota of Olympic entries in the Pairs and Ice Dance events. Therefore, those vacancies were filled by increasing the number of entries available in Zagreb, allowing for one additional entry in both disciplines. The number of available places was increased from 4 to 5 in the Pairs event and from 5 to 6 in Ice Dance, while skaters in the Ladies' and Men's events battled to secure one of the 6 open entries available in each of those two categories.

In the case where countries subsequently do not take up their Olympic slots, then the vacancies will be filled with stand-by entries, based on the results of the Qualifying competition in Zagreb. ISU Members must submit all entries by name for the OWG by January 28, 2002 to the Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee via their respective National Olympic Committees.

The total of the places and stand-by entries for the Figure Skating events at the OWG, have been allocated as follows:
