2002 Olympic Winter Games: Pairs Event

As previously announced, the ISU is continuing its inquiry into the judging of the Pairs event in Figure Skating at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

A hearing before the ISU Council, referred to in ISU Communication No. 1150 which reported upon Council actions respecting this inquiry, will be held on April 29-30, 2002 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

This hearing is part of a disciplinary procedure within the ISU, a voluntary sports organization. It is not conducted as a civil or criminal court trial, but rather under the same procedures as ordinary ISU Council meetings. Under ISU Rules, such meetings are confidential.

There will be no ISU Press Conference immediately at the conclusion of the April 29-30, 2002 hearing and no facilities are foreseen for the media.

Upon conclusion of the hearing and after having informed the parties concerned, the ISU Council will issue a statement of the basic decision(s) taken. Thereafter, the ISU Council will consider whether a summary of the basis for the decision(s) could be published.

The ISU reiterates that in spite of the fact that interviews and communication of certain unilateral opinions and allegations have been given publicly by some concerned parties, the ISU will not release further details related to this matter while the disciplinary actions are pending.
