Figure Skating, Ice Dancing and Synchronized Skating



Criteria for International Inter-Club Competitions subject to ISU Development Program assistance (as per ISU Communication No. 1085, point 2)

The following criteria are recognized by the ISU and are to be used in all Inter-Club Competitions when partly supported by the ISU Development Commission:

Entries:         Open to eligible skaters of ISU Members in accordance with Rule 107, paragraphs 8. 

Age bracket:     Junior age as per current ISU Regulations or younger, to be decided on a case by case basis by 
                 the Development Commission in consultation with the respective Technical Committees, Medical 
                 Advisors and Coaches Commission. 

Judges/Referees: National Judges and Referees may officiate at such competitions. No ISU Referee Report is to be 
                 submitted to the ISU Technical Committees for Singles, Pairs and Ice Dance, however one should 
                 be submitted for Synchronized Skating.

These International Inter-Club competitions are not within the definition of "International Competitions" stated in Rule 104, paragraph 7 and shall not be announced on the annual lists of International Competitions (see Rule 104, paragraph 15 a).


A. Composition of Event for Singles and Pairs

The event shall consist of two parts:

1. Short Program of a maximum length of 2:15 minutes for Singles and 2:40 minutes for Pairs, factor 0.5.

2.      Free Skating Program of 3:00 minutes for Singles, and 3:30 minutes for Pairs (+ or - 10 seconds), factor 1.0.

1.      Short Program Singles

        The Short Program for Girls Singles shall consist of the following elements:

a)      Axel Paulsen
b)      Double jump immediately preceded by connecting steps
c)      One jump combination consisting of two double jumps,  may not repeat jump in b)
d)      Layback or sideways leaning spin (minimum of five (5) revolutions)
e)      Spin combination with only one change of foot and only one change of position 
        (minimum of five (5) revolutions on each foot)
f)      One Spiral or Step sequence, pattern optional (straight line, serpentine or circular with full 
        utilization of the ice surface).

        The Short Program for Boys Singles shall consist of the following elements:

a)      Axel Paulsen or Double Axel Paulsen
b)      Double jump immediately preceded by connecting steps
c)      One jump combination consisting of two double jumps,  may not repeat jump in a) or b)
d)      Camel or Sit spin (minimum of five (5) revolutions)
e)      Spin combination with only one change of foot and only one change of position 
        (minimum of five (5) revolutions on each foot)
f)      One Step sequence, pattern optional (straight line, serpentine or circular with full 
        utilization of the ice surface).

2.      Free Skating Program Singles

        A well balanced Free Skating program for Singles must contain:

a)      The number of different jumps is not restricted, but at least one jump combination or sequence of 
        jumps must be included. 
b)      There must be at least three (3) spins of a different nature, one of which must be a spin combination and 
        one a flying spin.
c)      There must be at least one step or spiral sequence that fully utilizes the ice surface.

3.      Short Program Pairs

        The Short Program for Pairs shall consist of the following elements:

a)      One lift (single or double), any hand hold
b)      One twist lift (single or double)
c)      One solo jump (single or double)
d)      One solo spin,  no change of foot, change of position optional, 4 revolutions minimum
e)      One pair spin,  no change of foot, change of position optional, 4 revolutions minimum
f)      One pivot figure (pivot position by man required)
g)      One spiral sequence (minimum of 2 spirals by each skater), pattern optional, full utilization of ice surface
h)      One step sequence, pattern optional, full utilization of ice surface.

4.      Free Skating Program Pairs

        A well balanced Free Skating program must contain:

a)      Two different lifts, but not more than three (one may be a twist lift)
b)      One throw jump but not more than two (single or double)
c)      Only one solo jump (single or double)
d)      Only one jump sequence (any number of single and/or double jumps)
e)      One pair spin combination
f)      One solo spin
g)      One pivot figure without restrictions
h)      One spiral sequence
i)      One step sequence.
 B.     Composition of Event for Ice Dance
        The Ice Dance event shall be composed of the following two parts:

        1.  Compulsory Dances:
        Group 1: European Waltz, Rocker Foxtrot, Fourteen Step
                 To be skated in odd years, as of July 1st

        Group 2: American Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango
                 To be skated in even years, as of July 1st

        Two dances to be drawn before the first practice of the Competition.
        The number of sequences shall be as per Rule 540, paragraph 1.

        2.  Free Dance
        To be constructed in accordance with Rule 510 with the following modifications:

        Duration:       2 min. 30 sec., +/- 10 seconds

        Music:          Vocal music is not permitted

        Required Elements:

        Lifts:         maximum 3 (in accordance with Rule 504 paragraph 16) - maximum 5 seconds duration
        Dance Spin:    One only, any hold/position. Minimum 3 revolutions for both partners.
        Step Sequence: 1 Diagonal or 1 Circular. No required footwork, holds/positions.

Marking

An Ice Dance event shall be marked in accordance with Rules 508, 510 and 545.

Determination of the Final Results

After having determined the result in each part of the Competition, the placings obtained by each Ice Dance couple, in each part of the Competition must be multiplied by the following factors:

        Each Compulsory Dance   0.5     (25% each)
        Free Dance              1.0     (50%)

a) The placing for the Compulsory Dances multiplied by their factor are added to the placing for the Free Dance multiplied by its factor. The sum of these is the total for the Compulsory Dances and the Free Dance combined and the best placement shall be given to the couple with the lowest total.

b) If two or more couples receive an equal total for the combined result (Final), the best shall be decided on the basis of the best placings for the Free Dance. If the placings for the Free Dance are also equal, the couples concerned are tied.

 C.     Composition of Event for Synchronized Skating
        The event shall consist of:

        1. Free Skating Program
           Should be a balanced program constructed according to Rule 711.

        Duration:       3 min. 30 sec

        Music:          Vocal music is permitted and must include at least one (1) change of tempo.

        Required Elements: 

        a)  a variety of circles, lines, blocks, wheels and intersections of which no element is 
            dominant. There must be a balance among the elements.
        b)  step sequences of an intricate variety used to enhance both the elements and the transitions
        c)  there must be at least three (3) different holds
        d)  the five basic elements (circles, lines, blocks, wheels, intersections) must be clearly    
            recognizable and there must be a balance between the elements. The team must 
            predominantly act as one unit 
        e)  movements in isolation are allowed (see Rule 703, paragraph 10)

        Illegal Elements:

        a) lifts of any variety
        b) jumps of more than one (1) revolution
        c) intersections incorporating back spirals
        d) prolonged lying or kneeling on the ice at the beginning, end and/or during the program
        e) highlighting


        Marking

        A Synchronized Skating event shall be marked in accordance with Rule 712.
