Communication No. 1092: Ice Dancing


In accordance with the decisions taken at the ISU 2000 Congress held in Quebec the IDTC brings the following matters to the urgent attention of Members.

Two additional requirements have been introduced:
Firstly for the Judges for International Competitions being nominated for the first time; secondly for the promotion of International Competition Judges to International Championship status.

1. Ice Dance Judges Examination
(Rule 589 para 7)

To be eligible for promotion to the class of "Judge for ISU Championships" the recommended candidate must, in addition to complying with the conditions of Rule 589, paragraph 7 a) to e):

f) new, have passed the ISU Dance Judge's Examination. Nomination to take the examination will be made by the Member. Members may not nominate candidates until they have complied with the conditions of paras a) -e) above.

g) new, Candidates having passed the examination (see information regarding date and place below) will immediately be appointed by the IDTC and be added to the current list of Judges for ISU Championships.

For this one time only, candidates who successfully complete the examination described below will be appointed to the Official List of Championship Judges after April 15th 2001 for the 2001/2 Season.
Further examinations are planned in the autumn of 2001 and will be announced in due course in a Communication.

The Examinations, which will include Trial Judging will be held on the occasion of the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in

Ayr, Great Britain December 14th-17th 2000

Applications to participate must be submitted by the Member concerned, on behalf of their candidates, to the ISU General Secretary not later than November 14th 2000. Full details of the examinations are available on request, through the ISU Secretariat. The examination will be conducted in English by a panel of Examiners appointed by the IDTC.


2. Seminar including Trial Judging
(Rule 589 para 6)

To be eligible to be proposed as a Judge for the first time, candidates may only be nominated as Judge for International Competitions.

Candidates must fulfil Rule 589 paragraph 6 a) , c) and d) in addition to:

b) new, Candidates nominated by the Members must have attended one ISU Dance Seminar in the 24 months preceding the nomination. The names of the prospective nominees for such promotion must be announced to the Chairman of the IDTC prior to attendance in order for them to be assessed at the Seminar. This Seminar will include Trial Judging. The dates and locations of such Seminars will be announced annually and prospective candidates must apply to the ISU General Secretary.

An ISU recognized Seminar to include Trial Judging will be held during the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in

Ayr, Great Britain, December 14th-17th 2000

Please note

Only if a Member plans to nominate an individual as a candidate by April 15th 2001 may they request their attendance at the Seminar proposed above. Candidates must have fulfilled all other requirements of Rule 589 paragraph 6 by the date above for a valid nomination. (Note: closing date for nomination November 14th 2000).

If this does not prove to be the case and the candidate fails to apply on April 15th, 2001 for appointment as a Judge for International Competitions, the ISU and the IDTC reserve the right to request the full reimbursement of all expenses incurred by the candidate in question to attend the above mentioned Seminar.

Arrival and departure

All candidates for both of the above activities must arrive in Ayr not later than the evening of Thursday December 15th and both activities will finish by mid-day on Sunday December 17th.

Expenses

a) All expenses of the Moderators and Examiners will be borne by the ISU.
b) The travel and living expenses of the Moderators and Examiners will be borne by the ISU.
c) The administrative expenses (classroom, supporting equipment and off-ice facilities) will be borne by the ISU.
d) The travel expenses of those candidates attending will be borne by the respective Member.
e) The living expenses (room and meals) of the attending candidates from dinner on Thursday until lunch on Sunday will be borne by the ISU.

Applications

No applications will be accepted after the closing date. Application forms that are not correctly completed will not be accepted. Due to limited space, applications will be treated on a first come first served basis. The IDTC reserves the right to decline any application.
