Ice Dancing


I. ISU Ice Dance Judges Seminars (replaces ISU Communication 967)

In accordance with Rules 581 and 589 of the ISU Special Regulations for Ice Dancing, all Judges and Referees for International Competitions and ISU Championships are obliged to attend an ISU Ice Dance Judges Seminar within a four (4) year period.

All these Seminars will be conducted in English.


1. ISU Recognized Ice Dance Judges Seminar

a) The ISU Ice Dance Technical Committee (IDTC) has assigned ISU Recognized Ice Dance Judges Seminars to the following Members:

                        Australia, Sydney               April 23-25, 2000 
                        Canada, Toronto                 August 17-20, 2000 
                        D.P.R. Korea                    TBA     
                        Republic of Korea               TBA

Participation:

The ISU Ice Dance Judges Seminars are primarily for the Judges and Referees of the Host Member. However, Judges and Referees of other Members who need to attend Seminars may, upon application to the ISU Secretariat with copies to the Host Member and the Chairperson of the Ice Dance Technical Committee, also attend, subject to the availability of places. These applications must be received at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of the respective Seminar. National Judges and Coaches up to an agreed number may also participate in these seminars for purposes of development, additional education and exchange of ideas should space be available.

Expenses:
a) All expenses for the Moderator(s) of the Seminar will be covered by the ISU.
b) The travel and living expenses (accommodation and meals) for all participants of the Host Member (Referees, Judges, Coaches and demonstrating couple(s)*) are to be borne by the Host Member.
c) If the Moderator of the Seminar decides that ice dance demonstrators other than those of the Host Member are required, then the travel and living expenses for these invited skaters will be borne by the ISU, with a maximum of two (2) couples *.
d) The administrative expenses (use of ice rink, classroom, supporting equipment and facilities and all other off-ice expenses) will be borne by the Host Member.
e) The travel and living expenses for the participants of any other Members who wish to attend this Seminar are to be borne by their respective Member.

* The demonstrators will receive (from ISU) a contribution of SFr. 500. - per couple for skaters placed among the first 10 in any ISU Championships, and SFr. 300. - per couple for skaters not so placed.

b) Should any Member Federation wish to host an Ice Dance Judges Seminar over and above the ISU quota, they may apply to the ISU Secretariat with a copy to the Chairperson of the Ice Dance Technical Committee at least six (6) weeks prior to the start of this Seminar. All expenses related to the organization of this Seminar including those of Moderator and demonstrators are to be borne by the Host Member.


2. First ISU Sponsored Ice Dance Judges Seminar

The Ice Dance Technical Committee will host the first ISU Sponsored Ice Dance Judges Seminar which will be organized:

in Vienna, Austria May 12-14, 2000

Participation:

The following persons are eligible to attend the first ISU Sponsored Ice Dance Judges Seminar:
a) Ice Dance Referees and Judges for ISU Championships and International Competitions from the European region. First consideration will be given to Referees and Judges from Austria, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Latvia and the Slovak Republic who are required to attend an ISU Judges Seminar this year.
b) If space is available, Ice Dance Referees and Judges from other European Members may be considered.
c) Up to three (3) National Ice Dance Judges of the Host Member eligible for future appointment as Judges for International Competitions.
d) Up to three (3) Ice Dance Coaches of the Host Member.

The maximum number of Referees and Judges participating in a Seminar must not exceed thirty (30).

Members of the above mentioned countries must send to the ISU Secretariat, with copies to the Host Member and the Chairperson of the Ice Dance Technical Committee, an application with the names of the Referees, Judges and Coaches who will participate in this Seminar. The application must be received by April 14th, 2000. The Host Member must also send to the ISU Secretariat, with a copy to the Chairperson of the IDTC, the names of its own Referees, Judges and Coaches who will attend the Seminar.

Expenses:

The responsibility for the expenses of an ISU Sponsored Ice Dance Judges Seminar are allocated as follows:
a) The travel expenses of the participating ISU Championship and International Referees and Judges will be borne by their respective Members.
b) The living expenses (room and meals) of the participating Referees and Judges, including those of the Host Member (except National Judges and Coaches) will be borne by the ISU for the period from lunch time on Friday, May 12th to breakfast on Monday, May 15th.
c) All administrative expenses, including the living and travel expenses of the moderators and demonstrating ice dance couple(s), will be borne by the ISU.


II. First Annual ISU Ice Dance Referees Conference

The first Annual ISU Ice Dance Referees' Conference is to be held in:

London, Great Britain, August 4-6, 2000

The main aim of this Conference is to give Referees, as Chairpersons of their panels, a broad knowledge and detailed information concerning all requirements for the Season 2000/2001. Referees participating in this Conference must provide dissemination of this information among other Referees, Judges, Coaches and Skaters in their respective countries. The topics of the Conference will include detailed analysis and interpretation of:

· The 8 Compulsory Dances (4 Senior and 4 Junior) and the Specific Deductions      (Season 2000/2001)
· Original Dance - the Guidelines and Required Elements                         (       -     "     -       )
· Free Dance - Music, Composition and Required Elements                         (       -     "     -       )
· Interpretive Dance                                                            (       -     "     -       )
· other matters of interest to Referees, such as completing Referees' Reports

Participation:

Members who have less than four (4) Referees on the current ISU List (Championships and/or International Competitions) may propose one (1) name. Members who have more than four (4) Referees on the current ISU List may propose two (2).

Ice Dance Judges for ISU Championships and/or International Competitions, who in the view of their respective Member, possess the necessary personal and technical abilities plus the potential to be a Referee may submit their name for consideration. The total number of the participants must not exceed thirty (30).

All participants must have a good knowledge of the English language.

As the total number of participants is restricted, the Ice Dance Technical Committee reserves the right to make the final selection from the applicants submitted by the Members and to include in the final List of attendees the names of those, who in view of the IDTC, have the relevant qualities to be Referees.

Expenses:

The responsibilities for the expenses for this Conference are as follows:
a) The administrative expenses will be borne by the ISU;
b) The living expenses (room and meals) of the participating Referees, including those of the Host Member will be borne by ISU for the period from lunch time on Friday, August 4th to lunch time on Sunday, August 6th. (Special allowance for an extra night will be considered for those travelling from non-European countries).
c) The travel expenses will be reimbursed by the ISU to a limit of SFr. 800.- per person for representatives of European countries, up to SFr. 1'000.- for representatives of North America and up to SFr. 1'200.- per person for representatives of Asia and Oceanic regions.

Members wishing to send a Referee to attend the above stated Conference, must apply to the ISU Secretariat with a copy to the Chairperson of the Ice Dance Technical Committee, at least six (6) weeks prior to the date of the Conference.

The program of the Conference will be distributed upon application.
